After earning a secondary school diploma, there’s no shortage of learning opportunities to pursue. Some students might opt for the four-year university track, but for those who already have an idea of the career path that’s right for them, vocational, apprenticeship, or career college training might make more sense. Post-secondary certificates and diplomas offer a much faster track to a career, with hands-on training and experiential learning opportunities that equip graduates with the skills to successfully transition right into the workforce.

The Dual Credit programs at Waterloo Catholic District School Board offer students an opportunity to get a head start on the path to a career. Through various Dual Credit programs in different subjects, secondary school students can take college or apprenticeship courses, allowing them to gain credits towards both their Ontario Secondary School Diploma and a post-secondary diploma, certificate, Certificate of Apprenticeship, or even degree.

Gain Practical Experience During Secondary School in Canada

When you imagine attending secondary school in Canada, a traditional classroom setting might come to mind, with students seated at desks listening to lectures. However, through a Dual Credit program, you will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning and gain practical experience in a field you’re interested in.

During the program, you will take courses off-campus at nearby colleges such as Waterloo, Guelph, and Conestoga College. You can also use the resources, equipment, and

state-of-the-art facilities available at these institutions. With hands-on training in trades such as Welding, Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Automotive Servicing, and more, gaining practical experience as early as secondary school enables the ability to get a head start on the path to a successful career.
